Pre-employment and Continuing Employment Skills

When hiring a candidate, many employers look beyond job specific skills and focus on a potential employees softs skills. Soft skills such as communication, motivation, and literacy and numeracy skills. Whilst you may have all the technical skills and qualifications for the job, if you aren’t able to work collaboratively and effectively with other people in the organisation, you may not be hired. The DEEWR found that 1 in 8 employers recently hired someone who needed further development of their job specific skills, while only 3% were willing to hire someone lacking in soft skills[ i].
